In a bid to build a global supply chain, contract manufacturer Zetwerk has been focussing on multiple categories such as oil and gas, defence, renewable energy, etc., said Srinath Ramakkrushnan, Co-Founder of Zetwerk.

Zetwerk is a manufacturing network that partners with enterprises across sectors and gets the products manufactured majorly through a network of small and medium manufacturers. The company claims that it works with 10,000 MSMEs, 95 per cent of whom are in India.

Anirudh Reddy of Zetwerk Manufacturing On How To Use Digital Transformation To Take Your Company To The Next Level

Aspart of our series about “How To Use Digital Transformation To Take Your Company To The Next Level”, I had the pleasure of interviewing Anirudh Reddy.

Anirudh Reddy is the Director of Strategic Initiatives and North American business for Zetwerk, the leading global source for contract manufacturing. Before joining Zetwerk, he worked at Ather Energy as a Senior Manager and at Eaton as an Engineer. He graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology in Madras with a dual degree in Mechanical Engineering and Energy Technology.

Thank you so much for joining us in this interview series. Before we dive in, our readers would love to “get to know you” a bit better. Can you tell us a bit about your ‘backstory’ and how you got started?

I’m an engineer at heart and have always loved building things. I was part of the early team at Ather Energy, where we built an electric two-wheeler, taking the product from concept to market in a few years. At Zetwerk, I had the unique opportunity to be part of the team creating a platform that helps others build by making manufacturing seamless, thus helping bring thousands of products to market.

Germ of an idea: How Zetwerk pivoted to write its Make in India story

Note to Readers: Germ of an Idea is a series about the entrepreneurial idea — how it was conceived, shaped and launched, detailing the early days filled with uncertainty and apprehension, the bold steps taken and the eventual success. The series hopes to inspire thousands of potential Indian entrepreneurs who are on the cusp of starting up or have ventured recently or are in schools and colleges dreaming of turning founders

There is something about pivoting and Acharyas. In his early 40s, Arabinda Acharya left his insurance job in Bhubaneswar to chase his dream to get a doctorate. The mid-career shift to academics proved to be hugely beneficial. At 58, Dharitri Dwivedy started her non-profit which is thriving.

Years later, when their son, Amrit Acharya, had to design a business pivot, it was a case of history repeating itself, and also the beginning of a billion-dollar journey.

Zetwerk, originally thought of as a software as a service (SaaS) business, needed a pivot to succeed. Amrit and his co-founders decided to turn into a B2B manufacturing marketplace. Today, the company is at $2.7 billion

Rahul Sharma: The Ideator

From working as an engineer in oil fields to co-founding Zetwerk, a digital manufacturing company, the journey of Rahul Sharma has been astounding. Hailing from a humble background, son of a middle-class government officer in Bhopal, he studied engineering at IIT Roorkee. He began his career as an engineer but was soon enticed by the startup ecosystem.

Bitten by the entrepreneurial bug, he decided to leave his high paying job and jumped into the startup world. After donning senior managerial roles at Schlumberger and setting up logistics startup Blackbuck, he finally took a leap of faith and started his new venture: Zetwerk Manufacturing in May 2018.

Rahul founded Zetwerk as a software company and helped it pivot three times from a SaaS company to a marketplace and then to managed marketplace. “These pivots proved to be crucial points for the business. Making those bold moves and learning to adapt early on solidified Zetwerk’s position,” said Rahul Sharma, co-founder, Zetwerk.

Zetwerk partners with the world’s leading industrial and consumer enterprises to get products manufactured via a global network of small manufacturers; it helps with supplier selection, pricing and fulfillment of orders. “I believe in figuring out the right problems in big markets and creating great teams to solve them,” quipped Sharma.

For Rahul, books are the biggest mentor. “Reading about Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Reliance is the best way to learn and grow oneself.

PLI not a permanent policy feature: Rajeev Chandrasekhar

NEW DELHI : The production linked incentive (PLI) scheme should not be thought of as a permanent solution but as a transition period for India as the country moves towards becoming a globally competitive economy achieving $300 billion in electronics manufacturing, said Rajeev Chandrasekhar, minister of state for IT and electronics at the Mint-Zetwerk Smart Manufacturing Summit 2023.

“PLI, I don’t think should be thought of as a permanent let us say part of the equation of being a manufacturing economy. It is a way to bootstrap the economy or bootstrap the players. But it will more than be compensated by all of the other efficiencies that these volumes and these gains will create over time,” he said.
